**UPDATE COMING SOON FOR 2024-25
Wellness policy 2023-2024
AWB follows the guidance for childcare facilities regarding respiratory and gastrointestinal infections issued by the CDC, PA Dept. of Health, and the Allegheny County Health Dept.
Do NOT bring your child to AWB if he/she:
- has had a fever in the last 24 hours or is taking fever reducing medication
- has vomited or had diarrhea in the last 24 hours
- has nasal drainage that is not clear
- has a sore throat
- has a cough, cold, flu, pinkeye, or any other contagious illness
- has symptoms of COVID-19 or has been exposed to someone with it
- has developed any communicable disease such as scabies, pinworms, lice, hand-foot-mouth, etc.
* The child may return after they are fever-free with no medication for at least 24 hours and are symptom-free (or doctor has determined they are not contagious.)
*A doctor’s excuse may be requested for your child to return to AWB
Masks – Masks are optional for children age 2 and older and. Masks are encouraged as a courtesy if a child is recovering from or has been exposed to illness. Children will not wear masks while eating or sleeping. If a child is coughing excessively, they will be given a mask to wear. When COVID-19 hospital admission levels are high, we may implement universal masking.
Vaccination – All children and staff are encouraged to get the appropriate flu shots and COVID-19 vaccinations/boosters annually as directed by their doctor.
Ventilation – We will ventilate classrooms with fresh air as much as possible. We will also go outdoors often. Please send your child in appropriate outerwear and sneakers.
Communication and Transparency – It is vital that we have honest communication with our staff and families to remain open and illness-free as much as possible. If your child or someone in your home or immediate family has symptoms of infection/illness or has been exposed to it (especially flu or COVID-19) and may have attended AWB before showing symptoms, please inform us so that we can alert staff and other families. Please provide information about symptoms, incubation period, and any other pertinent facts.
